Chemex coffee is a brew method that yields a very smooth cup of coffee with no extreme flavor notes or aftertastes. For those looking for a mellow yet strong cup, this style is ideal.
There's no wrong way to enjoy your coffee. Try our recommended guide below, or freestyle on the water / coffee ratio until you find your personal preference (AKA the perfect cup).

Grind size: Coarse like kosher salt.

What you'll need

  • 42 grams of ground coffee (6 tablespoons)
  • 630 grams of water
  • Hot water 205º F
  • Place the paper filter on the chemex. Rinse with hot water. Toss the water.
  • If you are using a scale to measure water pours watch steps 1-6
  • If you're not using a scale, watch the steps 7- 10 to get some tips to eyeball it

Place chemex and filter on the scale. Zero out scale.

Place coffee in the filter, then add 150 grams of water

Stir grounds to saturate

After 45 seconds have passed, add water in a gentle spiral to reach 450 grams

At 1:45, complete to 640 grams of water

Let it brew and enjoy!

Add 10 swirls of hot water to fully saturate the coffee.

Stir with a chopstick or spoon, let bloom.

After 45 seconds have passed, pour more hot water until you're 1 inch from the top.

At 1:45, add more water all the way to the top.
