Our 12 oz Phin Filter fits on most mugs and can make 1-3 servings of highly caffeinated brew.
We recommend a 1:2 ratio of coffee to water. So start with 6 tablespoons of coffee, then you can add or decrease your coffee depending on how strong you like it. Super versatile!
With the 12 oz Phin, we highly recommend doing a second pour of hot water since some of the water always gets absorbed by the coffee.

Great coffee press
I decided to try the phin filter to get away from plastic k-cups and the plastic coffee maker. It makes a great cup of coffee and I’m so glad I found this!

Great for a single drinker
I became a new parent last year - and realized how much I needed caffeine in my daily routine to survive. I'm not a huge coffee drinker and only limit myself to 1 cup per day so I wanted to look for something that was easy enough to make just for myself. I had the moka pot before but after finding out that it's made of aluminum I decided to find something that was stainless steel. I got this about a week ago and it's been great so far! Super easy to brew and clean, giving me the perfect dose of caffeine to chase around my 1 year old.

Awful coffee
I found the coffee to taste terrible. There policy is if you don’t like it there are no refunds or replacements. You’re stuck with coffee you don’t like . There are plenty of other coffee roasters out there that stand by their coffee with refunds or replacements if you don’t like their coffee. Don’t buy.

The superior alternative to an Aeropress if you have a minute
I tested my new Phin filter head to head with my trusty Aeropress with the same amount and type of coffee and had a taste test. The flavor from the Phin cup was about 20% better, but it took a few minutes of waiting instead of a few seconds of active involvement. I'll definitely use it on the weekends more than when I'm rushing to get out the door. One important note: if you use the amount of robusta grounds they recommend (six tablespoons per 12 ounces), *definitely* fill the Phin twice and not once before you drink the coffee. One small sip of once-extracted coffee was, uh, a real party experience, if you get my meaning.

How is the phin filter different from pour over?
Phin filter brewed coffee is more concentrated due to the water to coffee ratio. Additionally, phin filters don’t require a paper filter, so the extraction process and final cup differ from pour over.
Our pricing is derived from a variety of factors such as fair labor wages, costs of materials, and production. Our producers are a small, woman-owned team in Vietnam who make our phin filters in batches. Phins at supermarkets may have been mass produced in factories without any information provided on origin or sourcing. We’re striving to be as transparent and ethical as possible through every level of our business, and the prices are an effort to reflect that.
Why is my phin filter dripping too fast/too slow?
Factors including how you're grinding, what’s your grind size is, and whether or not you have dialed in the grind size to the phin filter affect total brew time.
For Nguyen Coffee Supply phin filters, we recommend a fine grind size and a 2:1 ratio of water to coffee. For other phin filters, we recommend experimenting to dial in according to that specific filter.
For example, coffee that is too coarse will drip too fast. Using less than 2 tbsp of coffee in a 4 oz phin filter may result in a fast drip as well.
