A note from our Founder
Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world, and the #1 producer of robusta beans -- yet, I couldn't find a fresh roasted Vietnamese coffee bean anywhere on the market.
Vietnamese coffee has a unique and bold flavor due to its red basalt soil. Vietnam's coffee industry specializes in the robusta bean, where as the dominant bean in Western cultures has been centered around the arabica bean. Robusta coffee beans have up to double the caffeine content and roughly 60% less fats and sugars of arabica, giving robusta coffee its bold, dark chocolatey flavor and strong kick!
Personally, I was tired of weak coffee that tasted acidic, sour and bitter. I wanted a bold brew that would energize me!
So in 2016, I visited my family in Vietnam and established a direct trade coffee relationship with some family-owned farms, specializing in premium robusta and arabica beans. I learned how to import and roast coffee beans. By 2018, I launched Nguyen Coffee Supply out of my tiny Brooklyn apartment. We are proud to be the first specialty Vietnamese coffee importer & roaster in America, and proud champions of the resilient robusta bean.
Now, we're seeing the next wave of coffee culture expand, including a Vietnamese Phin Filter next to a French Press or V60 Pour Over. I'm thrilled you're here to join our journey and I hope our coffee brings more joy to your daily ritual!
