Getting seriously into specialty coffee the last couple of months, I’ve had my heart set on trying a good quality robusta, as the only robusta I previously had was via instant coffee and filler in commercial coffee. Needless to say, I’m pretty impressed! Despite robusta having a bad reputation for being bitter, the truegrit is incredibly smooth. While the flavor might not be unique or particularly interesting as far as specialty coffee goes, it’s very pleasant with a very nutty, earthy, cacao taste. It’s smooth enough to drink black, but likely still bold enough to add cream. Bottom line is that to me, it tastes like a much smoother and tastier version of commercial coffee; likely because commercial coffees use some robusta. So if you are a coffee snob that enjoys interesting, unique, fruity type flavors, you may not be too impressed. However, if you like the flavor of commercial coffee but want something much less bitter and much tastier, you’ll likely love it! I’ll definitely be buying more in the future.
